Stop camcorder from recording in mts?

-My camera is great quality I love it, BUT IT RECORDS IN STUPID MTS FORMAT...

It is a HDC-HS20 panasonic hd camera, and I would hate to convert it every time I make a video.

I own a mac and use vlc to watch the fotage and use final cut and after fx but some programs (Mocha for after fx) don't allow this format... How can i make it record in avi or mpg or even MOV file?!?!?
