-I make movies, and I know the difference between camcorders, and professional camcorders. But I am young, and have trouble saving up over 1000. Anybody know where to find an at least semi professional video camera that IS NOT USED?The difference between consumer and professional camcorders today is mostly one of marketing. In general, the cheaper the camera, the more likely it is to be an essentially consumer camera, and vice versa. "Pro" cameras sometimes have a slightly different feature set from that of consumer cameras, they may have different ergonomics, etc., but the distinction between consumer and pro today is a continuum, not a bright line.
So spend your money on what you can afford, and stop worrying about whether it is "professional" or "consumer" gear. Nobody will know the difference when they see the finished product.
Why the aversion to used???
You have a good start, you appear to have researched the benefits of a pro-camera. You also recognize the limits of your budget. Great thinking, so far. But then you cripple yourself by insisting on new! This will force a compromise on the camera. There are a couple ways to go: Get a DSLR designed to shoot still photos, with a fairly small battery, and both a mirror and a shutter that needs to be electronically held open in order to shoot video. Yes, they CAN capture pretty good quality but there is a host of handicaps these cameras have. The other way to go is to pick the best format for video, in a consumer camera, which is the MiniDv based HDV which start right at $1000.
As the longtime owner of 2 Canon GL-2s (one of which I got used off of e-bay) I strongly recommend you re-think the used market. I have seen many people get cameras like the Canon GL or XL series for a single event or trip. I have seen many people over-estimate their desire to make quality video and walk out of a camera store with way more camera that they can use or care to take the time to understand. The GL is a $2700 camera, the XL is about a $4000 camera. Be patient and watch the used market and you can find the XL for under $1000 and the GL for about $800. Ask questions, talk to the owner if you can. It never hurts to pay a repair center a few bucks to go over a new-to-you used camera.
The triple CCD, MiniDv cameras record a higher data rate than the best consumer HD camcorders, and can be up-converted to produce a better picture than native HD.
I've purchased several cameras, lenses, flashes and other items off of Craigslist and eBay and have yet to be sorry. In the purchase of my GL and my 5D alone I have saved over $3000!
Don't compromise on the camera specks, don't over-extend your budget. Just research used items until you are comfortable with a purchase.
Hi, Great question.
The best semi professional camera for around $900 is the new Panasonic HDC-TM900.
It's very good in low light, great image quality overall - especially in high quality mode.
The TM900 has good manual controls and excellent image stabilization.
It also has 3 chips, good battery life and a good zoom.
It gives you all the features you need and more that you'll grow into. It's an awesome camera.
As a young filmmaker you're going to really like it and do great work!
Check into the Canon T2i, T3i,60D, or 7D, all of those are Semi-pro and record at 1080P 60FPS (I own the T2i myself and a couple lenses for it and it takes some really Awesome pictures and video. you probably won't get the 7D or T3i for much if any under $1,000.00 but you can get them brand new on ebay for around the price you are looking for. the only other recommendation if you are looking for a good actual camcorder for under $1,000 is the Sony HDR-PJ30V and it has a projector built into the back of the LCD so you can instantly review on a nice white wall if you want to with that one also. if you could go more than $1,000.00 then my ONLY recomendation is the Canon HF G10 HD that one has LOTS of features, most of which lean more toward the professional side of video recording.
Hope this helps

Look at the rebel line from canon, its a Digital SLR but some of them record at 1080 and under $1000.
I know a few people who use them for recording movies.

Transfering video from Digital Camcorder to Computer ?
-how do I transfer the video content from my Sony Digital Camcorder to a PC or Mac (I have both)... what type of cable do I need ?
on the ports on the camcorder there is:
- S Video
- Audio/Video
- LANC/Digital I/O
- DV IN/OUTSony Digital Camcorder needs their unique and special adapter and cable to transfer that not matched with any other digital devices, and u didn't say what the explicit model it is. So the best way to solve this problem for u is go to the nearby sony stores and council the salesmen and buy a matched cable.
Besides, there are still some problems about playing those camcorder videos with different players or devices. In my case, I often use aiseesoft Total Video Converter to change the camcorder videos to any other devices, and their transfer tools can provide easiest way to manage your media files among different digital devices.
Hope this could help u !

DVD-R compatibility problem?
-So I have a canon DC210 camcorder. It records on a dvd-r disk. However, I can't get my computer to recognize those files and therefore can't import the files onto the computer. Is there anyway to do so and also change them to MP4 Format? Thanks!MINIDVD
If you have a mini dvd camcorder鈥?
You will have to finalize your dvd in the camera and then put the dvd in your computer's DVD burner (top loading only) and then you will have to convert the files (I downloaded http://www.squared5.com file converter free) and import them into your editing program.
Use the HELP feature in your editing program to learn about editing. Usually you would import your videos and drop them in to the timeline, add transitions, menus, music, etc.
Once you are ready to burn, your project will be burned to a different DVD and you can file the original away.
Aunsoft Video Converter supports a lot of video and audio formats. It can convert TiVo to MPEG for you, making it easy for you to burn the output MPEG file to DVD with burning software. Then you can enjoy recorded TV shows anytime you want. It converts MKV, MTS, M2TS, TOD, MOD, TS, FLV, MXF to MP4, WMV for you to play different videos on portable devices like iPad, iPhone 4, Zune, PSP, XboX 360, Apple TV, WD TV, Nexus One, HTC Android Phones, HTC Legend, HTC EVO 4G, Motorola Droid X, Droid 2. And it can even let you convert the popular Flip Video/Flip HD video from Flip Mino, Flip Ultra, Flip MinoHD, Flip Ultra HD, Flip SlideHD pocket camcorders with high quality.

How do I get the new driver for my Insignia camera?
-When I bought my camera I installed the driver that came on the CD. But that was months ago. Now when I plug it into my computer it says it can't recognize the camera because there's a driver that needs to be installed. It still says the old one is installed though. I checked the computer files to see if there was something in there that could help the problem but it came up empty. Where or how would I find/install the new driver so I can get back to uploading videos.
Thank You.
Thank You.
HOW DO I BURN VIDEO SONGS ONTO A DVD RW DISC SOTHAT THEY PLAY IN MY SONY MEX DV 1000 CAR PLAYER?
-Hi, I know Sony MEX-DV1000 CAR DVD player, it just support Audio CD/MP3/WMA/Standard Video DVD playback, so if you want to burn video songs onto a DVD RW disc so that can be played well in this sony car dvd player, you need to use a right software to convert your video songs to Standard Video DVD format then burn onto a DVD RW disc, and I used RZ DVD Creator to do that, it can convert any videos to Standard video dvd format and burn to any dvd disc(DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, etc), easy to use, insert a DVD RW disc into your computer dvd burner drive, run RZ DVD Creator, select the dvd burner drive as the target folder, drag and drop the video songs into the software, then press the START button, you will get a right Standard video dvd, and you can play the burned Standard video dvd well in your sony mex dv 1000 car player, I always use it to burn videos to DVD to play well on my sony car dvd player, so I think it will help you alot, you could yahoo or google search and download RZ DVD Creator, hope these infos could help you.If you wanna make a DVD that will work on a standard DVD player, you will need a DVD burning tool to do this. Just copy the movie to a DVD disc, it will actually not read by DVD players.
The best and most reliable DVD burning tool that I've ever used is a tool called DVD Creator. It's able to burn all kinds of videos to DVD disc. After that, you can view the DVD on DVD player. It also lets you edit videos and create DVD menus. Easy to use and professional.
You should really give it a try. You may check out at:
