How to capture from Sony HVR-HD1000E to Adobe Premiere CS4 using firewire lead/cable x4 - usb?

-I set my camera on play/edit mode, turn on Adobe Premiere, click on capture and all I get is a black window saying capturing device is offline.

How do I turn it online & how to capture using a cable?

Step-by-step suggestions please!

ThanksThere is no firewire-USB cable/adapter/converter that will allow you to do what you want (get the video from the miniDV tape into the computer for editing).

The computer must have a firewire port (also called IEEE1394, DV or i.LINK) to connect to the camcorder's DV port for importing. That Adobe Premiere CS4 is not recognizing the connection you are trying to use is normal behavior. So far, all is working properly.

Too bad you did not tell us which computer you are using - we have no way to know if adding a firewire port is possible if the computer does not already have one.

The other option is to connect the AV port of the HDR-HD1000 to an "analog/digital converter" which can connect to the computer's USB port. Video quality will not be high definition (going through the analog step) but will get the video into the computer. Elgato makes a decent one. Roxio, Hauppauge and many others, too.
